The annual base salary range for this position in California is $225,000 to $255,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.
OC Sports and Entertainment (OCSE) is the premier organization for entertainment and lifestyle in Orange County and the management company for Honda Center, the Anaheim Ducks, and OCVIBE. OCVIBE is a one-of-a-kind, mixed-use community and live entertainment district coming to Anaheim in 2026. This $4 billion, 100-acre development will surround its anchor, Honda Center, with new live entertainment venues, dining and retail offerings, and public amenities. From intimate clubs to a new 6K-capacity concert venue, OCVIBE will provide a full range of entertainment, activating the district daily for the enjoyment of its guests.
The Chief, Engineering Operations will serve as the owner’s representative overseeing all engineering, technical operations, and facilities management activities within the district. Reporting to the SVP, Real Estate Operations, this role will be responsible for bridging ongoing construction delivery with long-term operations and maintenance planning. The Chief, Engineering Operations will supervise and provide strategic guidance to the District’s Chief Engineer (who is employed by the third-party property management company) and hotel operators, and act as a key technical advisor during all future phases of construction, commissioning, and facilities integration.
Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Leadership:
- Provide expert oversight of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire / life safety, vertical transportation, and building automation systems for the entire mixed-use district, including parking decks, restaurants, office buildings, hotels, residential properties, and public spaces
- Establish district-wide engineering standards and preventive maintenance protocols to ensure reliability, energy efficiency, code compliance, and best-in-class operational performance
Commissioning & Turnover Management:
- Support the construction and development teams during the acceptance and commissioning of the initial phases, including new parking decks (2025), and subsequent phased deliveries of commercial, residential, and public realm components beginning in 2026
- Review and approve engineering-related documentation (as-built drawings, O&M manuals, commissioning reports) and verify that delivered systems meet or exceed contract specifications, performance criteria, and sustainability targets
Facilities Management Oversight:
- Provide supervision and guidance to the third-party Chief Engineer, ensuring alignment with owner objectives, financial targets, and service-level agreements (SLAs)
- Implement robust maintenance management systems, asset management protocols, and continuous improvement measures to optimize performance and lifecycle cost management of district systems and infrastructure
Sustainability & Energy Management:
- Drive adoption of sustainable technologies and processes in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems Collaborate with sustainability consultants to achieve green building certifications (LEED, WELL, or equivalent) and ESG goals
- Oversee energy management strategies to reduce consumption, manage district utility budgets, leverage renewable energy solutions, and enhance overall environmental performance
Capital Planning & Long-Term Strategy:
- Serve as a planning and development resource for all future district phases, providing engineering expertise during conceptual design, feasibility analyses, value engineering, and infrastructure planning
- Develop long-term operating capital plans for major building systems, ensuring the district’s operational readiness and resilience in perpetuity
Stakeholder & Vendor Relations:
- Coordinate closely with internal development teams, architects, engineers, contractors, and construction management personnel to ensure smooth project handovers and optimal integration of technical systems
- Manage relationships with key vendors, equipment suppliers, and service providers, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, warranties, and performance standards
Regulatory & Code Compliance:
- Ensure all district systems adhere to local, state, and federal building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards
- Keep current with industry regulations, technological advancements, and best practices to maintain the district as a leader in engineering excellence
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, Facilities Management, or a closely related discipline; or equivalent combination of experience and education
- 10+ years of progressive facilities engineering, building operations, or engineering management experience, preferably in large mixed-use, commercial real estate, or hospitality environments
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or other relevant professional certifications are highly desirable
- Deep understanding of MEP systems, building automation controls, fire / life safety systems, and vertical transportation solutions
- Familiarity with commissioning processes, preventive maintenance software platforms, and advanced energy management systems
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to guide and mentor engineering staff and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills to work with ownership, vendors, and external partners
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, as well as demonstrated project management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to interpret construction documents, engineering reports, technical manuals, and specifications
- Able to work in a dynamic environment with phased construction and evolving stakeholder interests
- Able to be on-site regularly and respond to operational emergencies as needed
